Urban Village and The Factory Phnom Penh transformed the Factory Retail shopping street into a veritable fashion showcase on Saturday, giving young designers, both well-known and lesser-known, the chance to showcase their (great) talent.
With DJ RAM playing urban music and the cameras flashing, Factory Retail street was transformed into a veritable "streewalk", inviting the show's participants to reveal not only their talent as models, but also their personalities.
"This is the place to be for all fashion lovers, and we want to give a chance to all young Cambodians who are passionate about fashion and those who want to become models. I just want everyone to be themselves and tell us who they are," says Ms Sovattey Sary, Urban Village's Public Relations Officer and Event Ambassador.
"With the ambition to connect fashion communities and beyond, 'The Fashion Avenue' also aspires to popularise fashion among the general public, families and markets in Cambodia," she adds.
Much more than just a fashion show and competition, 'The Fashion Avenue' also offered young local designers the opportunity to showcase their designs and creations.
From clothing to jewellery and upcycling products, Khmer culture was also in the spotlight.
"There are more and more Cambodian designers making their own collections, and they are proving to be very talented. The idea of 'The Fashion Avenue' is to showcase their work," explains Karl Diederich, Director of Development at Urban Village.
As we explored the various aisles, we were able to meet some of them, such as Mony Virakyuth, founder of the 'Warden' brand, which reflects the values of safety and protection.
Created in 2023, this young man aims to link fashion and Khmer culture in his designs, drawing inspiration from his origins and the values of the Kingdom.
"My aim is to highlight Khmer heritage, and I want the Cambodian fashion sector to grow from strength to strength," he says.
Mr Zayar, originally from Myanmar, is the founder of the 'Sisburma' brand. "I'd like to expand my brand in the Cambodian market. "The Fashion Avenue is a great opportunity to talk to the locals," he says.
At the end of the day, the various participants were presented with prizes and shared their joy with their families and friends.

Combining sharing, culture and fashion, 'The Fashion Avenue' is the monthly event not to be missed. We look forward to the second edition, with a new theme this time, on the first weekend in June!
