The Governor of Phnom Penh, HE Khuong Sreng, and his wife lit candles as they presided over a traditional ceremony at the historic Wat Phnom site in Phnom Penh last night, as part of Day 2 of the Water Festival.
Twenty-five candles were lit, each representing a province and the capital. The lit candles were placed diagonally to allow the melted wax to drip down, in order to predict the amount of rain in each province and in the capital.
On the same evening, the Governor also presided over ‘Ok Ambok’ - another festival celebrating the moon. During this ceremony, participants eat Ok Ambok, a type of glutinous rice that is toasted and crushed with a pestle and eaten with banana or coconut juice.
