According to the General Department of Customs and Excise, Thailand remains Cambodia's fourth largest trading partner, just behind China, the United States and Vietnam.
Between January and September of this year, trade between the two nations totalled $3.169 billion, an increase of 12.4% compared to the same period in 2023.
Cambodia exported goods worth $645.5 million to Thailand, representing a slight decrease of 1%. Conversely, imports from Thailand surged to $2.523 billion, marking a significant increase of 16.4%. This imbalance has resulted in Cambodia's trade deficit rising from $1.515 billion in the previous year to $1.878 billion in the current period.
In September 2024 alone, the volume of trade between the two countries reached $381.68 million, a remarkable 37.73% increase on September 2023. During this month, Cambodian exports to Thailand increased considerably (+55.9%) to reach 74 million dollars, while imports rose by 34% to reach 307.68 million dollars.
Cambodia's main exports to Thailand include agricultural products such as mangoes, cassava, maize, pepper and beans.
Conversely, imports from Thailand are made up of construction materials, electrical equipment, agricultural machinery, foodstuffs and beverages.
However, difficulties remain, particularly for exporters of agricultural products during the harvest season, as the Thai authorities sometimes impose stricter import rules in order to regulate their domestic markets and stabilise prices. Despite these difficulties, trade in goods remained broadly comparable to previous years.
