Tourism & Transports: Techo International Airport to be inaugurated mid 2025

The construction of Techo International Airport has reached 80% completion, with an estimated inauguration date of mid-2025.

The project is on schedule for completion by the end of 2024, according to Sin Chansery Vutha, Undersecretary of State and Spokesperson of the Secretariat of State for Civil Aviation.

The Royal Government of Cambodia has given the green light to the Techo International Airport project, which has been awarded to Cambodia Airport Investment Company (CAIC).

This joint venture between the Royal Government and the OCIC Group is responsible for the construction and development of the new Phnom Penh International Airport. The project encompasses an extensive 2,600 hectares, situated 20 kilometres south of Phnom Penh, spanning across Kandal and Takeo provinces.

Techo International Airport has been designed to accommodate long-haul transcontinental flights and large aircraft, including the Airbus A380-800 and Boeing 747-800, and is classified as a 4F airport. Todate, the project employs approximately 15,400 workers, 90% of whom are Khmer.

Furthermore, Vutha stated that in the initial seven months of 2024, the three airports in Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, and Sihanoukville facilitated over 30,000 round trips, representing a 13% growth compared to the same period in 2023. During this period, these airports also served over three million round-trip passengers, indicating a 20% increase.
