The Ministry of Information, which is coordinating the tours, made the announcement yesterday, stating that the planned trips will be held every Saturday, starting on 7 September until the end of 2024.

All transportation, meals, and accommodation will be provided free of charge, and the tours will be sponsored by Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet and First Lady Lok Chumteav Dr. Pich Chanmony, as well as by private donors. No state budget or Border Infrastructure Development Foundation funds will be used.

The announcement outlined the three locations where the tours to northeast Cambodia will be conducted. The first is the border area in Thbong Khmum, Kratie and Mondulkiri provinces, which will take a day. The second is the border area in Kratie and Mondulkiri provinces, which will take an overnight trip. The third is the border area in Stung Treng and Rattanakiri provinces, which will also take an overnight trip.

Registration can be completed individually or by group via a QR code. It was also highlighted that a presentation by expert officials from the State Secretariat of Border Affairs will be held for participants one day prior to departure.

In an interview with AKP on 30 August, H.E. Tep Asnarith, Undersecretary of State and Spokesperson at the Ministry of Information, explained that the programme will serve as an exposure tour for the public and young people.

“Its aim is to provide a better understanding of the geographical location of the border provinces, as well as the development status and livelihoods of the people residing in those areas.”

He went on to say that participants on the tour will have the opportunity to observe first-hand the government's efforts to achieve gradual development and maintain the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Cambodia in relation to neighbouring countries on the basis of mutual respect.

It is anticipated that participants in the tour will disseminate the knowledge gained to others, thus preventing misinformation from affecting them.

The information spokesperson also viewed the initiative as a chance to promote the natural tourist attractions in the border provinces, both in the short and long term.
