The Preah Srey Içanavarman Museum of Economics and Money (SOSORO) and the Association of Banks of Cambodia (ABC) have renewed their memorandum of understanding, extending their fruitful partnership aimed at promoting economic culture among young Cambodians under the same terms as the initial agreement signed in March 2024.

The signing ceremony took place on 19 February at the SOSORO Museum, in the presence of H.E. Dr. Sum Sannisith, Deputy Governor of the National Bank of Cambodia.
Building on last year's achievements, the renewed Memorandum of Understanding on the ‘Banking Sector Programme for Economic Literacy’ reaffirms the banking sector's commitment, according to the museum's press release.
This initiative aims to improve access to the National Bank of Cambodia's SOSORO Museum for public school students, with the help of key banking and financial services partners.
To date, this initiative - in which Cambodia's private banks contribute to a fund covering transport and visit costs - has enabled some 9,000 public school pupils in and around Phnom Penh, as well as in Kampong Thom province, to become familiar with Cambodian culture and gain a better understanding of Cambodia's monetary and economic history.
This Memorandum of Understanding is more than just a formal agreement; it is a promise to our children, giving them the opportunity to see in practice what they learn at school. These visits give them knowledge, help them understand the value of money and the history of our currency and economy,’ said ABC President Rath Sophoan.
“By encouraging financial education from an early age, we are not only preparing our young people for personal success, but also contributing to the economic resilience and prosperity of our nation as a whole,” he added.
This fruitful partnership has already enabled thousands of public school pupils to learn about Cambodia's economic and monetary history, reinforcing the inclusive nature of the SOSORO museum,’ said Mr Blaise Kilian, co-director of the museum.
“We are grateful to the Banking Association of Cambodia and its members for their generous commitment to economic education, and we look forward to continuing our cooperation and extending its reach to other schools in Phnom Penh and the provinces,” he added.
Sum Sannisith said that public-private cooperation was necessary for the progress of our society. The renewed memorandum of understanding takes effect immediately and will remain in force until 31 December 2025, with the possibility of subsequent renewal.
