Sports: Gold medalist Khou Kheanghuy, pride at enhancing cambodia prestige

Cambodian athlete Khou Kheanghuy has enhanced the country's prestige by winning a gold medal in Men's Sport Physique over 180cm at the 56th Asian Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championship 2024, recently held in Indonesia.

"This was the first occasion on which I had won a gold medal, and I was extremely gratified to hear the national anthem and see the Cambodian flag saluted at the medal conferment ceremony," the gold medalist Mr. Khou Kheanghuy informed reporters upon his arrival at Phnom Penh International Airport on 13 August.

The national athlete is dedicated to pursuing further training in order to qualify for the 15th World Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championships in the Maldives in November 2024. "I will continue to strive for excellence and aspire to secure another gold medal for the nation," he stated.

Mr. Tek Bunvy, President of the Cambodian Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation (CBFF) and an international judge, expressed his satisfaction with the Cambodian athlete's achievement and thanked the Royal Government, particularly the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, for their support to all sports, including bodybuilding.

The Cambodian bodybuilding delegation comprised three members: Mr. Tek Bunvy, who served as head of the delegation and judge, Mrs. Emy Saryrom, who acted as coach, and Mr. Khu Kheanghuy, who was the athlete representing Cambodia. Another athlete, Mr. Srin Reach, was unable to participate in the tournament due to health reasons.
