The General Department of Tourism Development and International Cooperation and the Siem Reap provincial administration discussed the potential expansion of the ‘model tourist village’ in the province, one of Cambodia's most visited destinations.
The discussion took place at a workshop organised by both parties in Siem Reap on October 25. According to Mr Yun Linne, vice-governor of Siem Reap, his province strongly supports the initiative and encourages the residents of the targeted villages as well as Siem Reap as a whole to support it in order to promote tourism and the local economy.
So far, he said, the village of Preah Dak, in the province's Banteay Srei district, has become a model tourist village that attracts visitors from all walks of life thanks to its clean, green environment and its many tourist services.
The Director General of the General Department of Tourism Development and International Cooperation, H.E. Chuk Chumno, said that a model tourist village was a driving force for sustainable tourism and contributed to the diversification of tourism products and rural development.
The participants agreed on the criteria for improving the model tourist village, including cultural and natural resources, cultural conservation and dissemination, economic, social and environmental sustainability, and infrastructure and connectivity.
