The Siem Reap provincial authorities are calling on all concerned to work together to improve the quality of the environment by reducing the use of plastic bags and replanting trees.
Mr Yun Linne, Deputy Governor of Siem Reap Province, made the call while taking part in the World Environment Day celebration held on 05 June 2024 in Siem Reap, under the theme ‘Improving land quality, nature and drought resistance’.
The deputy governor announced that 500 people, government representatives, civil society organisations, the private sector and teachers, students and students took part in the town clean-up programme to celebrate World Environment Day.
Mr Yun Linne said that with this participation, on behalf of the Siem Reap provincial authorities, not a single day of environmental clean-up was needed.
In his view, all participants should reduce the use of plastic bags and examine the possibility of replanting plants and trees wherever possible.
‘Environmental issues are our problems, so we have to get involved’, he said.
At the same time, Mr Yun Linne also announced that in order to improve the beauty of Siem Reap, the provincial administration has identified a number of routes for replanting trees in the vicinity, such as Rumduol, Trabek. Forest, etc.
The Ministry of the Environment has drawn up an environmental strategy in line with the Royal Government's programme, ‘reaffirming the government's mission and commitment to the environment in order to meet the population's aspirations for sustainable development’.
Mr Sun Kong, Director of the Siem Reap Provincial Department of the Environment, pointed out that this strategy had three angles: individual and collective cleanliness; greenery, for which the Ministry of the Environment has encouraged the replanting of one million seedlings per year, and for which the Siem Reap Department of the Environment has planted more than 160,000 seedlings; the third angle is sustainability, for which the Ministry has defined several programmes.
