Last Sunday, the Sofitel Phnom Penh Phokeethra kicked off the festive season in style with a vibrant and sophisticated Christmas market, brought in partnership with the amazing folks from CULT (Cambodia's Ultimate Lifestyle Trade). This platform is all about showcasing the best of ethical and responsible Cambodian brands.
From 10 a.m., amidst a bustling scene of 85 vendors, the public was treated to an inspiring exchange of ideas and the chance to discover the amazing local brands involved. From natural beauty products to silk weaving skills, agricultural products, jewels, clothes, accessories, handmade candles, cosmetic and upcycling products, the Kingdom's incredible culture and amazing savoir-faire – from Cambodian and expat creators – shone through more than ever!
It was a fantastic event that really promoted and encouraged local brands! Anne-Laure Bartenay, manager of CULT, was absolutely delighted by the number of visitors:
"This year, as soon as the event opened, we were absolutely inundated with people flocking to the stands! We are absolutely thrilled to report that we have had an exceptional turnout today! We had 85 amazing stands, each just as varied as the last, and some highly motivated craftspeople.
Each and every vendor has been carefully selected to align with CULT's mission to promote responsible living through ethically designed products made with love right here in Cambodia.
She added:
“CULT is on a mission to bring these amazing artisans into the spotlight and connect them with customers. We're all about making their talents accessible to as many people as possible! This is a fantastic opportunity for them to sell! The great thing is that most of them practise traditional skills, which means they can keep these amazing techniques alive through their production. We're passionate about creating ethical, responsible and sustainable products!”
From the moment the special event kicked off at 10 a.m. until the early evening, the public had the chance to discover the amazing jewellery, clothes, accessories and other items on offer from local designers. Everything was in keeping with the CULT collective's motto: promoting an ethical and sustainable lifestyle with 'responsible' products lovingly made in the Kingdom.
There was something for everyone, with products aimed at women and men alike. The superb fashion, handmade macramé, scarves, jewellery, cushions, tableware and other home accessories were presented with a smile by the many craftsmen and designers who turned out in force for the occasion.
The market was a roaring success, with hundreds of visitors flocking to do their Christmas shopping, discover new talent or simply chat over the exquisite selection of food and drink offered by the Sofitel. The market also featured a number of fantastic entertainments, including a performance by the ever-popular Musica Felice and a musical ambience concocted by Selective DJ.
All in all, it was an amazing event that gave families and friends a chance to enjoy Christmas in all its splendour. It's worth remembering that all the participating vendors were part of the CULT mission: to promote an ethical and sustainable way of life, with objects that are responsibly designed and lovingly produced locally.
