Phnom Penh & Gastronomy : The return of Oktoberfest in Cambodia

After a six-year hiatus, German Business Cambodia (GBC) is thrilled to bring back the highly anticipated German Oktoberfest to Phnom Penh.

The return of Oktoberfest Cambodia

The Oktoberfest, organized by the GBC has become a signature event bringing some of the unique German cultural and traditional experiences to the Cambodian communities, and is the entertaining connector celebrating the manifold Cambodian-German partnerships in a relaxed athmosphere.

German Business Cambodia (GBC), a founding chapter of EuroCham Cambodia, has hosted the event since the early 2000’s at Sunway Hotel, Hotel Cambodiana and in tents at Koh Pich. Now, the festival returns to Koh Pich’s Connexion Community Mall for the first time since 2018.

“The Oktoberfest was a highlight of the Phnom Penh event calendar for many years, but from 2018 we had difficulties to make it work due to Covid19, a lack of manpower, sponsors or venues. We are very glad that we now have aligned with the successful concepts from Vietnam and Thailand, with an all-inclusive offer for entertainment, food, beer and soft drinks. This year should be the first of a new series of Oktoberfests in Cambodia, and we are really excited to launch it again in 2024”, says Tassilo Brinzer, GBC President.

“German Business Cambodia looks forward to celebrating this joyous occasion and to fostering the continued friendship between Cambodia and Germany”, he added.

This year’s Oktoberfest promises an unforgettable experience for its up to 1000 guests, as Ozapft, the renowned 6-piece band from Germany and Austria popular from the Oktoberfest in HCMC, Hanoi and Bangkok, brings the festive atmosphere of Bavaria to the heart of Cambodia. Adding to the vibrant ambiance, attendees will enjoy a variety of delicious foods prepared by our partners, Hops Restaurants and Hummus House, offering both traditional and modern German specialties, a BBQ as well as international and Mediterranean delicacies via an unlimited buffet.

The return of Oktoberfest Cambodia

Oktoberfest Cambodia 2024 beer partner is Cambrew Ltd. with its key brands Carlsberg, Angkor Beer, Singha, 1664 blanc, and Black Panther, alongside a selection of soft drink options to cater to all preferences. Each guest will also receive an original German beer stein to take home as a keepsake. Wines and selected spirits will be available at extra cost. The local business community is supporting the event, with names such as Auskhmer, Celliers d’Asie, DHL, Rhenus, Rieckermann, Hellmann and Würth joining the party.

BMW Motorrad Club Cambodia is also a key event partner. Its President OUM Bunreth is currently traveling on his BMW GS 1250 from Munich to Cambodia, since July 7th, via 23 countries. Bunreth was expected to arrive at the Oktoberfest Cambodia on October 26th - if he hadn’t been delayed due to an engine damage in Bulgaria. He will however greet the crowd via a video message from (most likely), China. Bunreth and the Oktoberfest raise funds for Cambodia’s Kantha Bopha Foundation.

German Ambassador to Cambodia, H.E. Stefan Messerer, will officially open the Oktoberfest Cambodia 2024 on Friday, October 25th, at 7:00pm. Many Cambodian celebrities and VIPs are expected to attend the event, which has earned the title of “The Biggest Party of the Year”.
