Phnom Penh & Exhibition: The Plantation Urban Resort & Spa welcomes Ouk Chim Vichet's Art

The Plantation Urban Resort & Spa is pleased to announce an exhibition of the works of Ouk Chim Vichet, one of Cambodia's most accomplished sculptors and painters. The exhibition will be held at the resort from 22 December 2024 to 7 February 2025.

Vichet's exhibition will be the inaugural event in a planned series of celebrations of the remarkable talents of Cambodia in the coming months

This exhibition inaugurates a new series celebrating the country's most exceptional artists. It promises to be one of the most spectacular to date, with Vichet's steel sculptures harmoniously integrated into the resort's verdant surroundings, creating a striking interplay between art and nature.

Alexander Scheible, the General Manager of The Plantation Urban Resort & Spa, states:

"Since the conclusion of our renovations, we are pleased to resume our role as a prominent patron of the Cambodian art scene."

Vichet is renowned for his innovative use of materials such as metal, wood, and stone, which he employs in the creation of sculptures and paintings that explore themes of peace, resilience, and Cambodian identity. Vichet is a graduate and faculty member at the Royal University of Fine Arts. He played a pivotal role in the Peace Art Project Cambodia, which resulted in the creation of the iconic Naga Statue in Battambang. This statue was made from decommissioned weapons. His artistry enables the transformation of pain into beauty, offering profound reflections on the nature of humanity and the potential for hope.

Vichet's works have been exhibited extensively across Cambodia and internationally, including his renowned Apsara Warrior, which is housed at the University of Michigan Museum of Art.

This collaboration represents the second partnership between The Plantation and Marina Pok, the founder of the Anicca Foundation. In her role as curator, she has been the primary driving force behind the realisation of this showcase. She expresses her enthusiasm, stating, "It is a profound privilege to witness the return of Ouk Chim Vichet to the Cambodian art scene after such a prolonged absence. His reappearance marks a pivotal moment in the history of Cambodian art, and this exhibition serves as an ideal platform to honour his exceptional talent and vision."
