This October and November, Plantation Urban Resort & Spa is particularly proud to host an exclusive exhibition of Happy Painting, the vibrant and exhilarating work of well-known artist Stéphane Delaprée, affectionately known as Stef.
A pioneer of the Cambodian art scene, Stef has spent decades perfecting his unique style. His art is more than just visually fascinating: it has a profound healing capacity. His paintings radiate warmth and optimism, offering a welcome respite from the stresses of everyday life. Described as ‘feel-good art’, Stef's work is filled with childlike wonder and a sense of hope. Her distinctive style combines naivety with deep artistic insight, inviting viewers to explore a world of positivity and simplicity.
About the artist
Born in France and raised in Canada, Stef began his artistic career in comics before developing his signature Happy Painting. In 1992, a visit to an exhibition of Crayola children's paintings in New York sparked his fascination with children's creativity, and soon after Stef began creating his own playful, brightly coloured interpretations of the world around him. His art blossomed in Costa Rica, where he began depicting life through the eyes of a child.
Since moving to Cambodia, Stef has become an integral part of the country's cultural landscape. His work reflects the Cambodian spirit, capturing everyday life with warmth and a touch of fantasy. In recognition of his contribution to Cambodian art, Stef was honoured by the King of Cambodia in 1995, and his Happy Painting Gallery was awarded ‘Gold Status’ by the Ministry of Tourism in 2008.
His paintings, renowned for their vivid colours and stimulating energy, have found their way into prestigious private collections in Europe, Asia and elsewhere. Stef's universal themes of joy, simplicity and hope transcend borders, making her art a global symbol of happiness and positivity.
