Plantation Urban Resort & Spa is pleased to announce the opening of a unique art exhibition featuring works by renowned Cambodian artist Chhim Sothy in an exhibition entitled Shades and Reflections.
About the exhibition
This exhibition at La Plantation offers a rare opportunity to discover the breadth of Chhim Sothy's artistic talent. From intricate watercolours to bold acrylic compositions, the collection reflects the depth and diversity of his work. About the artist
Born in 1969 in Kandal province, Cambodia, Chhim Sothy graduated from the Royal University of Fine Arts in Phnom Penh, where he began his studies in 1985 and completed them in 1995. Over the years, Sothy has established himself as one of Cambodia's leading contemporary artists, recognised both locally and internationally as one of the Khmer artists of international repute.
“Art and society are closely connected. Art is the mirror of society. Artists are able to record most of the historical events that have occurred and extract the main ideas through their works of art. Art can be a reminder, a suggestion or a criticism of past history. In Cambodia, we need to preserve this freedom for the betterment of our society,” he says.
Sothy's work has been exhibited in Cambodia and around the world, including France, Vietnam, Singapore, Thailand, China, the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, the United States and England.
His techniques include watercolour, Indian ink, acrylic and oil paint, demonstrating her versatility and innovation in artistic expression.
