A new and exciting collection of original artworks by one of Cambodia’s most original and unique artists, Nak Noy, is to be hosted by Plantation Hotel in Phnom Penh and represented by TRIBE Art Cambodia.
The artwork will portray the strong and universal bond between the artist and his mother and sisters, who play a significant role in his life. The exhibition prompts us to reflect on the profound bond we share with the strong women in our lives, including our mothers, sisters, family members, friends, and even Mother Earth, who serves as a benevolent and watchful presence.
During his formative years, the artist devoted considerable time and energy to drawing and painting, often creating works on paper and the walls of his family farm. His enduring passion for art continues to motivate and enrich his life, providing a source of joy and a means of escaping the vicissitudes of reality through the creation of a world imbued with hope, beauty, and love.
Nak Noy's work is characterised by a layered use of metaphors and symbolism, and he is self-taught. His signature style is instantly recognisable and highly collectable. The recurring themes of strong women and female empowerment in his work originate from his admiration for the most resilient Khmer women in his life, namely his mother and younger sister. The jewellery and intricate costumes serve to reinforce his ideas of beauty, independence and hope.
