We are pleased to announce the opening of the solo exhibition "Through The Lens" by Chhim Sothy on Saturday 21 September 2024 at 6PM. The exhibition will run until 21 November 2024.
The "Through The Lens" exhibition presents the captivating artworks of renowned artist Chhim Sothy, offering visitors the opportunity to experience the world through his unique artistic perspective. While the subject matter of his pieces may be drawn from the past, the present, or even imagined futures, each work is a testament to the artist's vision.
The exhibition offers insight into a diverse range of societal and human experiences, depicted in settings including urban life, rural landscapes, natural scenery, mountains, the lives of fishermen, and the essence of Buddhism. Chhim Sothy captures the beauty and complexity of nature and life all around us, transforming these scenes into art that resonates deeply with the viewer.
Mr. Sothy employs a variety of techniques, including watercolor, oil painting, black and white painting, and acrylic, to create his works. Each piece is imbued with the artist's personal emotions and insights, showcasing not just the scenery but the profound connection he feels towards it.

Biography
Mr. CHHIM Sothy (born in 1969 in Kandal province) is based in Phnom Penh. Mr. Sothy holds degrees from the Royal University of Fine Arts (1995) and Chantiers Ecoles de Formation Professionelle in Siem Reap (1997). Mr. Sothy is employed by the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts as Director of the Department of Plastic Arts and Handicraft.
Mr. Sothy's work is characterised by a diverse range of styles, often resulting in spontaneous and gestural abstract paintings, while simultaneously creating artful and well-balanced traditional paintings with contemporary elements. Mr. Sothy frequently incorporates mythical characters into his works, utilizing an anachronistic color explosion.
Mr. Sothy has been quoted as saying, "I am like a monk seeking wisdom."
His works have been featured in various exhibitions across the region. They can be found in Cambodian collections as well as in France, Singapore, China, Thailand, and Vietnam.
