Phnom Penh : Art Exhibition “Vibrations” by Luna KOL at The Gallerist

Luna Kol, an artist who takes a unique approach to her painting, using solely oil paint pigments that she blends and transforms herself to create unique colors and textures, will show her talent at the Gallerist next tuesday.

A constant thread running through Luna's works is her connection to her background, particularly her experiences traveling abroad. Instead of painting memories, she imbues the canvas with the energies of the places, people and cultures that have inspired her.

Luna Kol sails through shapes, colors and explores new shores. She is a travel artist whose experience is nourished by the distances she travels, interior and exterior, imaginary and physical.

Abstraction offers her a limitless terrain whose contours she can draw, map the reliefs and let herself drift.

Music sometimes gives her a direction, an orientation in her aesthetic research. This series is inspired by the soundtrack of Wong Kar Wai's film 2046. The sounds of Japanese composer Shigeru Umebayashi mingle with Nat King Cole singing in an opera.

Luna manages to create a syncretic art imbued with poetry and raw beauty. Behind her works, there is the trace of her personal journey and the influence of her dual culture, Cambodian and French.

Asia and the West unite in the pigments and roots of the canvas. From Paris to Phnom Penh via Lisbon, Luna Kol leaves her mark on art and moves us with the vital force she breathes into her paintings.

Biography

Luna Kol is a French artist born in Cambodia. After the Khmer Rouges seized power in 1975, her family fled the country and moved to France. As she adjusted to a new culture, Luna discovered art as a way to heal and express herself.

Early in her career, Luna focused on figurative drawing, with women and nudes being her primary subjects. However, she later shifted her focus to abstract painting, which allowed her to explore raw emotions and her personal history more deeply.
