News: CDC Welcomes New KOICA World Friends Korea Volunteers

A delegation of 13 new KOICA World Friends Korea (WFK) Volunteers Batch 162nd and 163rd, led by Mr. Shin Yonghwa, Deputy Country Director of KOICA Cambodia Office, was received by H.E. Mrs. Phana Veunida, Deputy Secretary General of the Cambodian Development Cooperation Board of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC).

At the courtesy meeting held at the CDC's headquarters in Phnom Penh on 6 August, both parties discussed the relevant subjects that the volunteers will undertake in order to assist the Royal Government of Cambodia in contributing to human capital development and fostering cultural exchange between the two countries.

During the productive session, the volunteers had the opportunity to introduce themselves, share their expertise, and discuss their duties in Cambodia.

"This meeting represented a significant step forward in the collaboration between KOICA and the CDC in support of Cambodia's development," said the KOICA Cambodia Office.

Going forward, the two organisations will work in close collaboration to enhance human capital and foster cultural exchange between Cambodia and Korea.

The new volunteers commenced their duties in Cambodia on 31 July. They are now undergoing a five-week local training programme covering the Khmer language, local adaptation, safety and culture.

Following the training period, the volunteers will be deployed to a number of locations, including Siem Reap RPITS, Kandal RTTC, Meanchey National University, Pursat POE, Kampong Thom PI, National Battambang University, CKCC, Meanchey POE and National Defence University.

Since 2003, KOICA has been sending professional Korean volunteers to Cambodia with the aim of sharing their expertise, knowledge and experiences in order to improve the quality of life of the country and strengthen the partnership and mutual understanding between the two nations.
