News: Cambodia officially inaugurates "Xi Jinping Boulevard"

On Friday, 19 July, the First Vice President of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), H.E. Sun Chanthol, officially inaugurated the "Xi Jinping Boulevard". Also in attendance was the Minister of Public Works and Transport, H.E. Peng Ponea.

According to the CDC 1st VP, the designation of the thoroughfare as "Xi Jinping Boulevard" serves to illustrate the enduring and mutually beneficial relationship between Cambodia and China.

“This gesture signifies the highest level of attention and gratitude from the Royal Government and the people of Cambodia to be inscribed as a historical memorial and a great honour to Chinese President Xi Jinping, along with the Chinese government and people, who have consistently demonstrated active support for peace, stability, economic growth, the enhancement of living standards for the Cambodian people, and the development of Cambodia.”

The boulevard is integrated into the main provincial and national road network in Phnom Penh and Kandal Province, connecting to ASEAN Highway 1 (AH-1), ASEAN Highway 11 (AH-11), the Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway (the first expressway), and the Phnom Penh-Bavet Expressway, which is currently under construction and scheduled for completion in the near future.

H.E. Sun Chanthol underlined: “The construction of Xi Jinping Boulevard has had a considerable impact on the growth potential of various goods and on the ease of movement of people between different areas, eliminating the need to pass through Phnom Penh. This has resulted in a reduction in traffic congestion and an increase in time savings. Furthermore, the area on either side of the road has undergone a process of transformation, with the emergence of new logistics, industrial, factory, warehouse, and Borey and housing development zones. These areas are witnessing a notable increase in population density and business activities, with further expansion anticipated in the future”.
