The first phase of Kampot Multi-Purpose Port, worth US$ 140 million, was inaugurated this morning by Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet.
The Prime Minister stated that this is one of the 10 multipurpose ports in Cambodia and that it will promote waterway transportation in the kingdom and boost trade to the international arena. He further asserted that with this new port, Kampot Province will become a hub for trade, tourism, and investment in Cambodia.
"This port will serve as another crucial artery for Cambodian maritime transport, enhancing trade and exchange activities, and stimulating economic growth in Kampot and the socioeconomic development of Cambodia. This multipurpose port is poised to become another deep-sea port in Cambodia, playing a pivotal role alongside the Preah Sihanouk Autonomous Port and Phnom Penh Autonomous Port,” the premier underscored.
Samdech Thipadei added that the port sector is one of the priorities for the Royal Government in promoting development. This is achieved by continuously increasing investment budgets, mobilising financing, and enhancing the efficiency of use to further develop port infrastructure.
Samdech Thipadei also thanked Kampot Logistics and Port Co Ltd for investing in the development of the port sector, aligning with the objective of the Royal Government's Pentagonal Strategy Phase One. This initiative aims to promote inland waterway and port transport sectors to achieve progressive development, enhancing Cambodia's competitiveness.
