According to data published by the General Department of Customs and Excise (GDCE), the United States remained Cambodia's leading export market in the first ten months of the year, while Vietnam took second place.
GDCE statistics on trade between Cambodia and major countries around the world reveal that from January to October 2024, Cambodia exported goods to the US worth $8.23 billion, up 9.8%, while imports from the US reached $217 million, up 7.5%.
After the United States, Vietnam is Cambodia's second-largest market, with exports worth $2.9 billion, up 31.2%, and imports from the neighbouring country worth $3.4 billion, up 14.5%.
China is Cambodia's third largest market. According to statistics, Cambodia's exports to China totalled around $1.4 billion, an increase of 12%, while imports reached $10.9 billion, an increase of 23.2%.
Meanwhile, Japan is Cambodia's fourth largest market, with exports up 18% to $1.1 billion and imports up 15.6% to $600 million. Canada, the fifth largest market, saw Cambodia's exports exceed $900 million, an increase of almost 30%, while imports from the country reached $48 million, a drop of more than 10%.
According to the GDCE's official report, Cambodia exported products worth $21.57 billion in the first 10 months of 2024, up 16% on the $18.59 billion exported in the same period last year. The main items exported include clothing, footwear, travel goods, bicycles, car tyres and potential agricultural products such as rice, rubber, cassava, bananas, mangoes and long beans.
The report adds that the top five export destinations for Southeast Asian countries are the United States, Vietnam, China, Japan, Canada and Thailand.
