Economy & Environement: Cambodia registers 2,968 electric vehicles by June 2024

Some 2,968 electric vehicles have been registered in Cambodia, according to Phorn Rim, spokesman for the Ministry of Public Works and Transport. This includes 1,614 cars and tricycles, 440 units and 914 motorcycles.

Phorn Rim noted that in the first six months of 2024, compared to the same period in 2023, the number of registered motorcycles increased by 380%, tricycles decreased by 29%, and cars increased by 508%.

The spokesman for the Ministry of Public Works and Transport added that the registered electric vehicles include brands such as BYD, Toyata, Tesla, BMW, AION, MG, Denza, Volkswagen, GAC and Letin.

He also stressed that the use of electric vehicles in Cambodia is a growing trend, with people showing increasing optimism and high interest in electric vehicles compared to petrol vehicles. The benefits of electric vehicles include low cost, comfort, low pollution and zero emissions from some car companies.

Phorn Rim added that the Royal Government will continue his efforts to increase the number of charging stations and create more favourable conditions for the use of electric vehicles.
