Economy & Cooperation: French national Tania Meyer appointed WB Country Manager for Cambodia

The World Bank has appointed Tania Meyer as its new Country Manager for Cambodia.

Tania Meyer, a French national, will lead the World Bank's engagement with the government, private sector, development partners and civil society. She will head the World Bank's Phnom Penh office and oversee a $1.7 billion portfolio of development projects.

Ms Meyer will lead the finalisation and implementation of the World Bank Group's new Cambodia Country Partnership Framework for 2024-29. The programme is expected to be launched in the coming months and will focus on improving human capital through better access to quality early childhood education and health services, increasing economic competitiveness to create better jobs, and strengthening the resilience of vulnerable people.

"I am honoured to take on this new role at this important juncture in Cambodia's development," said Tania Meyer, the World Bank's new Country Manager for Cambodia. "I look forward to supporting Cambodia in achieving its ambitious development goals and promoting human capital, job creation, and climate action for the benefit of all Cambodians, especially children, women, and vulnerable groups."

Ms Meyer has more than 15 years of experience at the World Bank, most recently as Country Manager for Yemen and Resident Representative for Jordan. She has also worked with international and local non-governmental organisations in Asia and Africa, including in Vietnam and China. She succeeds Maryam Salim, who has moved on to become Country Director for Ethiopia, Sudan, South Sudan and Eritrea after three years as head of the World Bank's Phnom Penh office.
