In the first quarter of 2024, Cambodia exported US$2.8 billion worth of agricultural products, representing a 56% increase over the same period in 2023, according to a report from the General Directorate of Agriculture.
The agricultural exports generated a total income of approximately US$2.8 billion, representing an 18% increase from the US$2.4 billion recorded in the same period last yearThe export of non-rice agricultural products was valued at US$2,165 million, while rice and paddy rice exports were valued at US$287 million and US$405 million, respectively.
China, Vietnam, Thailand, and Korea represent the primary markets for Cambodia’s agricultural exports.
As reported, Cambodian agricultural products have been exported to over 80 countries around the world. Rice, rubber, cassava, mangoes, fresh bananas, pepper, cashew nuts, longans, maize, palm oil, and other agricultural items are among the most significant export products.
The Royal Government has announced the implementation of a new strategic policy for agricultural development, with the objective of shifting from family to commercial farming and enhancing farmers’ income through value-added products.
Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia, has recently stated that the policy was aimed at upgrading traditional agricultural practices to the modern ones. "We are implementing additional policies to strengthen our agricultural potential, with the goal of enabling farmers to benefit more from agriculture," he said.
