Economy: Cambodia approves 43 projects worth $939m in November 2024

In November 2024, the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) approved 43 projects with a combined value of USD 939 million.

Last month, the CDC approved 40 new investment projects and three product expansion projects, representing a total investment capital of USD 939 million and creating approximately 39,000 jobs. Of the total investment projects, 32 are located outside Special Economic Zones (SEZs), while 11 are within SEZs.

The most prominent investment projects for November are as follows:

Outside the SEZ

• Infrastructure: The expansion project for a local telecommunication service investment (mobile phone system) will extend coverage across the capital and provincial locations throughout the country. The additional investment of USD 480 million will create 2,004 jobs.

• Tourism: The investment project entails the construction of a 300-room five-star hotel in Bavet Kandal Village, Sangkat Bavet, Bavet City, Svay Rieng Province. The investment is valued at USD 70 million and will create 822 jobs.

• An investment project to establish an energy drink factory in Krous Village, Sangkat Samrong, Khan Prek Pnov, Phnom Penh, with an investment of USD 39 million, creating 115 jobs.

• An investment project entails the construction of a factory for the production of Christmas lights, windmills, and furniture in Village 1, Treng Trayeung Commune, Phnom Sruoch District, Kampong Speu Province. The project represents an investment of USD 35 million and will create 1,930 jobs.

Inside the SEZ

• The investment project, which is to establish a special economic zone in Trapeang To Village and Trapeang Moul Village, Cheung Ko Commune, Prey Nob District, Preah Sihanouk Province, will require an investment of USD 50.5 million and will create 203 jobs.

• An investment project to construct an aluminium processing plant and manufacture solar panels and accessories in the Sihanoukville Special Economic Zone, with an investment of USD 30 million, creating 160 jobs.

In November 2024, the majority of investment came from Vietnam, accounting for 51.08% of the total investment. China ranked second with 24.26% of the total investment, while Cambodia contributed 14.49% of the total investment capital.
