Economy: 4th ASEAN Consumer Protection Conference held in Cambodia

The 4th ASEAN Consumer Protection Conference (ACPC) was held in Cambodia on 26 August. The event, hosted by the Ministry of Commerce, provided a vital platform for regional stakeholders to discuss the intersection of consumer protection and innovation.

The conference brought together regulators and businesses to discuss how adaptive regulations can drive technological and environmental progress while maintaining consumer safety.

The 4th ACPC is examining how consumer protection frameworks can facilitate innovation while maintaining consumer protection in the context of evolving digital and green economies.

H.E. Mrs. Cham Nimul extended a warm welcome to all participants and highlighted the significance of the gathering as we address the pivotal issues of innovation, sustainability, and consumer empowerment in the region.

H.E. Minister stated that the concept of consumer protection in Cambodia is still developing, but the Royal Government is placing great emphasis on raising awareness, creating robust laws and regulations, and implementing consumer protection initiatives through the Ministry of Commerce. Key milestones include the successful promulgation of the Law on Consumer Protection in 2019.

"The ACCP has served as the focal point in implementing and monitoring regional arrangements and mechanisms to foster consumer protection in the ASEAN Economic Community," she said.

“In her capacity as the host country, Cambodia is eager to facilitate a dynamic exchange of ideas, knowledge, lessons learned, and expertise. To this end, the government encourages all participants to engage in frank and constructive dialogues, extend their collaboration, and amplify impact,” she added.
