Diaspora & Remembrance: launch of the crowdfunding campaign for the KH50 Memorial

The Fragmentis vitae Asia association has announced the official launch of its crowdfunding campaign on the Ulule.fr platform for the creation of the Kh50 Memorial in Lognes (Seine-et-Marne).

The inaugural pillar of the Fragments KH50 project, the memorial building is an essential tribute to families originally from Cambodia

With a target of €18,888 to be reached by 11.59pm on 26 January 2025, this campaign represents a crucial step towards the creation of a place of remembrance and reflection.

Why the Kh50 Memorial?

The Kh50 Memorial will not just be a monument, but also a space rooted in the desire never to forget. Through the Fragments #Kh50 project, the Fragmentis Vitae Asia association wishes to make an active contribution to the duty to remember and offer a place of remembrance for present and future generations.

Some stories should never be forgotten: the stories of our families, our parents and grandparents, of those who lost everything but found the strength to rebuild.

The KH50 Memorial is not just a monument. It is a breath, a voice, a reminder of the lives shattered under Pol Pot's regime and also a vibrant tribute to those who survived, bearing witness to their courage and resilience.

This place of meditation, reflection and remembrance will be inaugurated in 2025 to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of 17 April 1975. And it is in Lognes, in this town where so many families found refuge and rebuilt their lives, that the KH50 Memorial will be set up.

The importance of remembrance

Fifty years ago, Cambodia was going through one of the darkest chapters in its history. Destinies shattered, families scattered, memories erased. In the midst of this chaos, there was also incredible courage: the courage to flee, to survive, to rebuild. Our parents and grandparents, these silent heroes, carried this weight to give us a better life.

Today, this memorial is essential:

To remember, because to forget would be to betray their sacrifice.

To pass on, because our children have the right to know their heritage and to be proud of it.

To bring people together, because each family carries a fragment of this collective memory.
