Culture : Six Tsutaya Bookstore will be opened in Cambodia by 2034

Tsutaya Book Malaysia Sdn. Bhd have signed a comprehensive franchise agreement with Cambodian company ULS. Six outlets will be opened in Cambodia by 2034.

Founded in 1983, Tsutaya Bookstore has consistently aimed to go beyond the traditional bookstore concept. From the beginning, the goal was to create more than a retail space but a destination that offered lifestyle navigation through curated media.

The first store in Osaka exemplified this vision by offering a unique selection of books, a cafe, and CD rental services, paving the way for the innovative approach that would define Tsutaya Bookstore’s identity. Tsutaya now lays claim to over 800 outlets in Japan, China, Taiwan, and Malaysia and Tsutaya Books, Malaysia is dedicated to expanding its presence across the Asia-Pacific region and bringing its distinctive brand of curated media and lifestyle experiences to new markets and audiences.

Complementing its vast collection of tomes, many locations feature cafe and lounge areas, inviting customers to relax, enjoy a cup of coffee and browse their purchases in a cozy atmosphere.

But what sets them apart is their individuality and creativity. Each location has its own unique design concept and personality, ensuring no two stores are alike. This distinctiveness makes Tsutaya Bookstore’s arrival in Cambodia an eagerly anticipated event, promising a fresh and exciting experience with every visit.

Moreover, Tsutaya Bookstore actively engages with the local community by hosting events, author signings, and book-related activities, fostering a vibrant reading culture. This commitment to cultural enrichment aligns seamlessly with Cambodia's thriving cultural scene and ULS’ community-first approach, where all projects contribute positively to the well-being of the residents. Together, they aim to bring new experiences for book enthusiasts and lifestyle seekers.

Hideyuki Uemoto, CEO of Tsutaya Books Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. (TBM), expressed,

"Cambodia's remarkable economic growth and flourishing cultural landscape present a compelling opportunity for expansion."

Kimleang Kean, Managing Director of Urban Living Solutions (ULS), emphasized, "The partnership between ULS and TBM resonates with our commitment to enriching the lives of Cambodians. This collaboration will culminate in opening six Tsutaya Bookstore locations across Cambodia by 2034.
