Cooperation: Japan grants Cambodia $60M in aid and loans

During Japanese Foreign Minister Kamikawa Yoko’s official visit to Cambodia from 5-6 July 2024, the two countries signed and exchanged notes concerning a yen loan project and a grant aid project.

Both foreign ministers signed and exchanged notes concerning a yen loan project (USD 59.6 million) for the implementation of the National Road No.5 Improvement Project (Thlea Ma’am-Battambang and Sri Sophorn-Poipet Sections) (III) and a grant aid project (approximately USD 2.7 million) for the Project for Human Resource Development Scholarship to support young administrative officials to study in Japan.

The Japanese government announced also a JPY 8 billion (equivalent to around USD 2 million) in financing for Cambodia to expand its electricity network in Phnom Penh. The Japanese foreign minister has reaffirmed her country's continued contribution to Cambodia's development, adding that her government is pleased to provide this aid for the expansion of the electricity grid in Phnom Penh.
