Cambodian PM welcomes Japanese companies' interest to invest in clean energy in the Kingdom

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet has welcomed and expressed support for Japanese companies' interest in investing in clean energy and carbon credits in Cambodia.

According to the PM, This is in line with the Royal Government's policy of ensuring sustainable development and its goal of promoting clean energy to 70 % by 2030. The Premier conveyed this to visiting Ms. Mio Kawada, Executive Vice President of the Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO), who led a business mission to Cambodia, during their meeting at the Peace Palace here on the afternoon of 6 August.

In return, Ms. Mio Kawada commended the Royal Government of Cambodia for its endeavours to enhance the investment climate in the country.

Ms. Kawada informed Samdech Thipadei that this is the second business mission organised by JETRO in Cambodia. The delegation, comprising representatives of 19 Japanese companies, is interested in investing in Cambodia in a number of fields, including green technology and carbon credits, utilising new and modern Japanese technology.

The Prime Minister expressed his appreciation for the sustained interest of Japanese companies in exploring investment opportunities and establishing connections with business partners in Cambodia.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet proposed the formation of a working group comprising representatives from relevant Cambodian ministries and institutions. This group would collaborate with JETRO and the aforementioned Japanese companies, as well as engage in further discussions on green technology and carbon credit.
