As of 20 January 2025, construction of Techo International Airport was 94% complete and it is scheduled to open in July 2025, according to the State Secretariat for Civil Aviation.
H.E. Sinn Chanserey Vutha, Secretary of State and Spokesperson for Civil Aviation, announced yesterday that major construction works, such as the airport's passenger terminal, power centre and apron, were largely completed by the end of 2024, with some remaining works due for completion in January this year.
“The operational preparation of the airport is underway and the entire construction is expected to be fully completed by May 2025,” he added.
”If nothing changes, Techo International Airport should be officially inaugurated in July this year,”confirmed H.E. Sinn Chanserey Vutha.
Techo International Airport has been named by CNN as one of the world's 11 most spectacular architectural creations, a significant achievement for the country's ambition to ‘look to the future of aviation’.
The CNN report highlights not only Techo International Airport, but also ten other revolutionary architectural sites around the world, including the New Sydney Fish Market in Australia, the Grand Ring Gallery in Osaka and the Goethe-Institut centre in Senegal, among others. All structures designed to reshape skylines and redefine urban landscapes.
Techo International Airport is designed with a capacity to handle up to six times more passengers. The project is backed by an investment of around US$1,500 million from a joint venture between the Overseas Cambodian Investment Corporation (OCIC) and the Cambodian government.
