Negotiations on the minimum wage for 2025 in the garment, footwear and travel goods sectors began yesterday, although specific figures have yet to be proposed.
The negotiations, which affect nearly one million workers, are a tripartite process involving the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training, factory or employer representatives and trade union representatives. During yesterday's meeting, key social and economic indicators were presented to the parties as a basis for their negotiations. Each party agreed to use the statistics and information provided for internal discussions before presenting their positions at the next meeting.
The three parties will continue with meetings scheduled for the mornings of 29 August and 6, 12, 19 and 26 September.
According to Nang Sothy, a representative from the employers' side, wage negotiations are conducted by analysing various economic and social factors, including the current inflation rate of 2.5%.
Kim Chansamnang, a union representative, said that the figure proposed by the unions would be based on a thorough study to ensure a mutually acceptable result.
