Cambodia’s Rice export bags US$280 million in first seven months of 2024

In the first seven months of this year, Cambodia exported a total of 379,546 tonnes of milled rice, representing a 4.6 percent increase from the 362,708 tonnes exported during the same period last year.

This information was revealed in a report released by the Cambodia Rice Federation on Monday. The rice export generated revenue of US$280 million, representing a modest increase from the US$253 million recorded in the January-July period in 2023, as detailed in the report.

China was Cambodia's primary rice importer, purchasing 77,204 tonnes of milled rice with a total value of US$48 million during the period.

Furthermore, the Kingdom exported 186,377 tonnes of milled rice, valued at US$144 million, to 26 countries in the European Union, 77,933 tonnes worth US$53 million to seven countries in the ASEAN region (including Timor-Leste), and 38,032 tonnes worth US$33 million to other destinations, according to the source.

The exported milled rice varieties included fragrant rice, long grain white rice, parboiled rice and organic rice. The report stated that fragrant rice accounted for 70.5 percent of the total rice export.

In addition, Cambodia exported 2,711,179 tonnes of paddy rice worth US$784 million to neighbouring countries during the period in question.
