The ISI Special Economic Zone, a new development covering more than 800 hectares in Preah Sihanouk province, led by ISI GROUP in partnership with several investors, was officially launched on 10 January 2024.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by H.E. Say Samal, Minister of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction, and H.E. Chea Vuthy, Secretary General of the Cambodian Investment Board of the Council for the Development of Cambodia, as well as the national and international business communities.
H.E. Chea Vuthy expressed his support for the new project by showing his positive vision of the contribution of the ISI SEZ to the Royal Government of Cambodia for the development of Sihanoukville and the Cambodian economy in general.
He stressed the importance of Sihanoukville as a national economic hub full of potential.
“The Royal Government has always considered the private sector as the engine of national economic growth in order to improve Cambodia's competitiveness. This support not only establishes the regulatory framework necessary for new collaborations, but also creates an environment that attracts local and foreign investment,” he said.
As part of the first stage of the business plan, ISI SEZ is being built on 206 hectares of land with a total investment of more than 50 million US dollars.
Mr Kang Leng, President of ISI GROUP, said that after the success of ISI PARK Veng Sreng and ISI PARK National Road 2, ISI GROUP has reaffirmed its commitment to improving Cambodia's industrial landscape with the development of ISI SEZ.
“ISI SEZ is looking to build on these achievements by incorporating state-of-the-art infrastructure. Our aim is to continue to innovate and play a leading role in this sector, creating a vibrant ecosystem where businesses can thrive and communities can flourish,” he said.
28 SEZs, out of a total of 52 registered, are currently in operation, with 835 factories and some 200,000 jobs. Cambodia's exports through SEZs reached US$5.4 billion in the first 11 months of 2024, notes a report by the Ministry of Commerce.
