The commemorative banknote will circulate with other existing banknotes throughout the country, according to the sub-decree signed by Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet on 16 October.

The new banknote is 170mm long and 76mm wide with three dominant colours - brown, orange and pink, the National Bank of Cambodia said in a prakas (official announcement) released this morning.

The commemorative banknote features the portrait of His Majesty the King along with that of Her Majesty the Queen-Mother on the front and the image of His Majesty the King and the Bayon Temple in Siem Reap province on the back, the same source said.

"Congratulations on the 20th Anniversary of the Coronation Day of His Majesty Preah Bat Samdech Preah Boromneath Norodom Sihamoni (29 October 2004 - 20 October 2024)" also appears on the back of the new banknote.

In 2019, the Royal Government will release the 15,000 riel banknote to commemorate the 15th anniversary of His Majesty the King's Coronation Day.
