Last Friday, the Minister of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation, HE HEM Vanndy, presided over the official launch of RMA Cambodia's latest electric vehicle (EV) models, the Chang An Deepal LO7 and SO7, “a step forward in Cambodia's EV journey and technological innovation”.

In his opening speech, the Minister highlighted the growing trend for electric vehicles in global markets, driven by consumer demand and regulatory mandates to reduce CO2 emissions from vehicles.

“The introduction of electric vehicles will open up new opportunities for job creation and economic growth,’ said the Minister, stressing that the electric vehicle industry in Cambodia could become a catalyst for the transfer of technology, knowledge and know-how.”

Mr Ngorn Saing, Managing Director of RMA Cambodia, spoke about the company’s evolving role in the automotive sector, highlighting its transition from simply importing vehicles to assembling them locally, and its ultimate goal of producing vehicles for export.

He also shared the notable achievements of RMA Cambodia’s Ford assembly plant in Pursat province, which has created more than 4,000 jobs and sold more than 4,000 units of Ford Ranger and Ford Everest since 2022.

“This demonstrates the confidence of local consumers in vehicles assembled in Cambodia,” he said.

Minister Vanndy praised RMA Cambodia’s initiative in launching the Chang An Deepal LO7 and Chang An Deepal SO7, “in line with the global trend towards EVs”. He added that the development of the EV industry in Cambodia would offer various mobility options, improve connectivity and increase efficiency in various sectors.

“I would encourage RMA Cambodia to consider partnerships with local companies, especially SMEs, to supply vehicle components from simple parts,” he added.

“Such initiatives would not only build the capacity of local businesses, but also contribute to a more sustainable and competitive supply chain for the company. The launch of RMA Cambodia’s Chang An Deepal LO7 and SO7 marks a breakthrough in Cambodia’s automotive industry and technology landscape, reflecting the country’s commitment to green development through technological innovation.”
