A notable increase in business operations was observed at Phnom Penh Autonomous Port (PPAP) in 2024, with a substantial surge in the number of cargo vessels and containers passing through the port, amounting to an increase of over 20%.

Concurrently, the port experienced a significant rise in passenger traffic, with an increase exceeding 40%.
A statement issued by PPAP on 14th January 2025 reported that the number of cargo vessels that passed through the port was 4,894, representing an increase of 26.82% compared to the previous year. The number of containers passing was 480,200 TEUs, representing an increase of 21.19%, while cargo and gas-fuel shipments reached 4,806,654 tonnes, an increase of 15.91%.
Furthermore, the number of passenger vessels passing through the port increased by 24.87% to reach 708, whilst the number of passengers increased by 43.73% to reach 36,150.The release further noted that in December 2024, 250 cargo vessels passed through, representing a 13.12% increase compared to December 2023.
The number of containers was recorded at 43,361 TEUs, indicating a 26.49% increase, while cargo and gas-fuel shipments totalled 440,065 tonnes, marking a 14.94% rise.The number of passenger vessels increased by 20.97% to 75, and the number of passengers rose by 16.57% to 3,300.
The General Department of Customs and Excise (GDCE) reported that in 2024, Cambodia's total imports and exports amounted to $54.74 billion, representing an increase of 16.9% over the $46.83 billion measured in the year prior.Exports were valued at $26.2 billion, representing a 15.7% increase, while imports reached $28.54 billion, an increase of 18%.

The Phnom Penh Autonomous Port is classified as an international port and is subject to the oversight of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport and the Ministry of Economic and Finance. It is situated at a distance of 2 km from the Chak Tomouk confluence, with coordinates of 11°35'N and 104°55'E.
The port's accessibility is noteworthy, with a distance of approximately 332 kilometres from the Cuu Tieu entrance, situated within the South China Sea, and around 100 kilometres from Kaam Samnar, a border gate between Cambodia and Vietnam.
The port's access channels are facilitated by the convergence of the Bassac/Hau Giang and Mekong/Tien Giang Rivers. The port's commercial zone extends from Phnom Penh to Neak Leoung (a section of the Lower Mekong River) and from Phnom Penh to Tonle Bet (a section of the Upper Mekong River).
