It is with great sadness that we learn of the death of Bénédicte Ravel, a lively and generous character who was unanimously appreciated by the French, French-speaking and Cambodian communities, notably among artists.

The news came suddenly today and left many of her friends and colleagues ‘speechless’, as expressed in the press release from the French in Cambodia - Stronger Together collective, which recalls that the Frenchwoman had been one of the founders of the Français du Monde - afde section in Siem Reap.

Tribute

The NGO Phare Ponleu Selpak also expresses its emotion and pays tribute to the work and unfailing dedication of the former Chairman of the Board of Directors.

“We are heartbroken to learn of the passing of our former Board Chair, Benedict Ravel. During her years of leadership and unwavering dedication, Benedict left a lasting impact on Phare Ponleu Selpak and all those who had the privilege of working with her.”

“We offer our sincere condolences to his family and loved ones at this difficult time. Benedict's commitment to our mission and his profound influence on our community will always be remembered by all members of the Phare family. Rest in peace, Benedict,” wrote the NGO.

In addition to a successful professional career in the arts, diplomacy and tourism, Bénédicte was best known for her warm smile, her sense of dedication and her kindness in the noblest sense of the word.

Despite an illness that forced her to seek treatment in France, Bénédicte chose to return to Cambodia, getting involved in tourism and also the arts with The Gallerist, a place that she promoted with energy and passion.

Adieu l'artiste, adieu l'amie, adieu Bénédicte

She was the one who maintained connections with the press, enthusiastically and professionally promoting the gallery's artists.

But Bénédicte was much more than that

Those who knew her well will be able to vouch for her availability, her ability to listen and her advice. Do you have a small problem to discuss? Bénédicte was there to offer pertinent advice, delivered with gentleness and diplomacy. With the compassion of a friend, the gentleness of a sister, and a slightly motherly tone.

We saw her come back with a different look, a radiant smile and unshakeable energy despite the long months she had spent in hospital. We dared to believe that her illness was a thing of the past, such was her incredible energy.

Unfortunately, fate had other plans and Bénédicte has left us, joining other wonderful souls who have gone far too soon. We will all miss her, artists, sensitive people and everyone she came into contact with.
