Cambodia and China have expressed their satisfaction with the excellent state of their relationship and their commitment to further strengthening and expanding their cooperation in a wide range of areas in both bilateral and multilateral frameworks for the common interest of the two countries, the region and the world.
In their meeting at the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh Sunday afternoon, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, and visiting H.E. Shohrat Zakir, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC) of the People’s Republic of China, discussed a range of topics of mutual interest. The two countries have agreed to foster cooperation in a number of areas, including the economy, trade, society, culture, tourism, education, vocational training, people-to-people exchanges, industrial and technological modernisation, the expansion of Cambodian agricultural exports to China, the Fish and Rice Corridor, and the Industrial and Technology Corridor.
The Cambodian Premier expressed his gratitude for the outcome of the meeting between the two legislative bodies’ leaders and thanked the Chinese government and people for their contribution to the socio-economic development of Cambodia.
Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet reaffirmed the seventh-mandate Royal Government’s commitment to continue to strengthen and expand cooperation between both nations.
H. E. Shohrat Zakir expressed his admiration for the remarkable progress that Cambodia has made, particularly in the capital Phnom Penh. He also shared the positive outcomes of his meeting with Samdech Thipadei Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly of Cambodia.
The National Assembly (NA) of the Kingdom of Cambodia and the National People’s Congress (NPC) of the People’s Republic of China have also agreed to work together to further strengthen their friendship and cooperation. They intend to be more active in both bilateral and multilateral frameworks, with the aim of bringing benefits to the two countries and peoples.
The agreement was reached between Cambodian NA President Samdech Thipadei Khuon Sudary and visiting H. E. Shohrat Zakir, Vice Chairman of the NPC’s Standing Committee, during their meeting on Sunday morning.
Samdech Khuon Sudary views the visit of H. E. Shohrat Zakir to Cambodia as a significant event in history, and believes it will contribute to further strengthening, expanding and enhancing the traditional friendship and the “Comprehensive Strategic Partnership of Cooperation” between the two nations. He also hopes that it will help to build a high-quality, high-level and high-standard Cambodia-China Community of Common Destiny.
The NA president respectfully requested the Chinese side to consider supporting the project to develop the NA of Cambodia into a digital NA and to rehabilitate the infrastructure of the 25 provincial and capital parliamentary offices.
For his part, H. E. Shohrat Zakir reaffirmed the NPC’s continued support for the development of Cambodia in all fields, including infrastructure construction, agriculture, agricultural imports from Cambodia, energy, technology, security, education, health and so on. He expressed his intention to promote Cambodia’s potential to Chinese investors and people to invest in and travel to Cambodia.
H. E. Shohrat Zakir also expressed his support for the promotion of cooperation between the two parliaments through exchanges of high-level visits, experiences, specialised committees, friendship groups, youth parliamentarians and at the NA General Secretariat level.
An NPC delegation, led by H. E. Shohrat Zakir, arrived in Cambodia on 21 May for a four-day official visit.
