Bokor & Tourism: New step for the Kingdom's first cable car

Sokimex Investment Group & Doppelmayr / Confluences are currently investigating the development potential of the Kingdom of Cambodia's first ever cable car at Mount Bokor.

New step for the Kingdom's first cable car

Neak Oknha Sok Kong, Chairman of Sokimex Investment Group, received representatives from Doppelmayr and Confluences, Doppelmayr's exclusive agent in Cambodia, to conduct a study on the cable car project on Mount Bokor.

Neak Oknha Sok Kong, Oknha Say Sophertra, Vice-Chairman of Sokimex Investment Group, met Mr Martin Ladner, Director of Doppelmayr Company, to discuss the development of the cable car system on Mount Bokor, and also visited the site to study the technical and economic feasibility of the project.

The main objective of this project is to increase the tourist appeal of Kampot province, in particular Preah Monivong Bokor National Park, for local and foreign tourists.

According to Sokimex;

“In addition to attracting tourists, this cable car project will create new employment opportunities for local residents and contribute significantly to Cambodia's overall economic growth.”

Kampot province remains one of the main tourist destinations in the Kingdom of Cambodia, particularly the area around Mount Bokor. Oknha Sok Kong is working to develop and invest in Mount Bokor to make it a destination that attracts visitors to its natural, religious and historical tourism areas present in Mount Bokor.

The Doppelmayr Group's world leadership in this market share is based on its excellent understanding of its customers' needs, its professionalism and its precision of execution. The Group designs efficient transport systems for tourist resorts, as well as modern local transport systems for urban environments.

With more than 15,400 installations in 96 countries, the Doppelmayr Group is no newcomer to Asia, and is expanding its international activities in Cambodia with solid confidence in the Kingdom's potential and maturity for mobility projects. Doppelmayr has a long tradition of exporting its mobility solutions around the world, and particularly in Asia, with excellent results in the Vietnamese market.

The Group's experience in Vietnam and the potential offered by Cambodia

“In collaboration with our customers, we have had great success in the Vietnamese market, where we have completed 28 projects in 23 years, including several that hold world records: the longest detachable installation between Hon Thom and Phu Quoc, the tallest tower in Ha Long Bay, several installations on the Ba Na hills, cable cars on Mount Fansipan, the highest point in Vietnam, and many others”.

“So Cambodia was the next logical step. The potential is great, especially for the development of pilgrimage sites, but also for island and coastal projects,” explained Martin Ladner, Regional Director of Doppelmayr, in a previous interview, adding:

“Thanks to the work done by Confluences, we are very ambitious and optimistic about the possibility of developing these projects in the near future. We also want to study the possibilities that could be offered to Cambodia's major cities in terms of urban transport by cable, because it has become a good alternative, very cost-effective if you compare it to the metro or other means of transport. Many capitals and other cities around the world have already integrated cable systems into their transport networks, so why not in Cambodia too?”
