Arts & Phnom Penh: Wonderful exhibition by artist Nout Daro at the Sofitel Phnom Penh Phokeethra

Last night, the Sofitel Phnom Penh Phokeethra gallery, in partnership with Recreation Cambodia, unveiled ‘Naturality’, a remarkable new series by the inspired and definitely talented artist Nout Daro.

The exhibition opened its doors to the public on the evening of 4 November 2024 with a series of evocative works celebrating the beauty and vitality of nature. As always, the gallery , that served as a springboard for many young and not-so-young local talents, was very well attended. Many art lovers, regulars and artist friends, as well as hotel guests, came to discover the remarkable works of this artist.

« Naturality » - Nout Daro — 'Naturality' - Nout Daro

His ‘Naturality’ series is inspired by the simplicity and grace of fallen leaves, which he sees as the art of nature. Mixing themes of nature, but also of local life and culture. According to the artist, each piece features his signature ‘sunrise colours’. A series with flamboyant hues symbolising the energy of the sun and its fundamental role in the balance of life.

Daro's authentic message in this collection is a call to love and protect the natural environment.

‘Love nature as you love your child’, he proclaims.

The Sofitel Phnom Penh Phokeethra continues its tradition of promoting local talent and enriching Phnom Penh's cultural landscape through the arts.

‘With artists like Daro, we want to highlight Cambodia's artistic heritage and promote Phnom Penh as a vibrant cultural destination,’ said enthusiastic General Manager Charles-Henri Chevet.

Biography

Born in the province of Kandal in 1991, Nout Daro holds a degree in sculpture and painting from the Royal University of Fine Arts. After his studies, he volunteered with NGOs to hone his skills, and eventually discovered his artistic style, which quickly struck a chord with local and international audiences.

In 2024, Daro won the prestigious jury prize in the Ekarieach competition, organised by the Sofitel Phnom Penh Phokeethra, marking a new stage in his burgeoning career. He has already exhibited widely, both in local galleries and in Singapore, and currently teaches art at the Yamada School and AUPP High School.
