According to H.E. Phoeurng Sackona, Minister of Culture and Fine Arts, the two-day ‘Angkor: The Smile of Cambodia’ campaign, which began yesterday, is a key event for promoting arts and culture and tourism in the country.
Thanks to this event, emphasised the Minister, ’local and foreign tourists can learn more about Cambodian culture and traditions and help to preserve and promote them'.
Under the theme ‘We work together for culture and tourism’, ‘Angkor: the smile of Cambodia’ is considered to be the biggest cultural event in Cambodia.
These two days offer a combination of two programmes: ‘The Wonders of the Khmer Empire in the Angkorian Period’, a spectacular representation of the heroism of King Jayavarman VII by hundreds of artists at the Angkor Wat temple complex.
Secondly, ‘The Smile of Cambodia’ aims to showcase the culture and traditions of the Khmer people associated with the temples, with exhibitions featuring Khmer cuisine, traditional clothing and souvenirs made by Cambodians.
For visitors, this event is also an opportunity to discover the warm hospitality and smiles of the Cambodian people, stresses the Ministry.
This cultural event is organised by the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts in cooperation with the Khmer Artists Association and relevant institutions to celebrate the 20th anniversary of His Majesty the King's Coronation Day (29 October 2004 - 29 October 2024).
'This event presented an extraordinary spectacle highlighting the rich and ancient culture and civilisation of Asia,’ said the Ministry of Tourism, adding that the grand cultural spectacle included a grand parade with a brass band, more than 500 renowned artists and cultural performances in the temples of Angkor - a historical and cultural event that has not been celebrated for a long time.
