AirAsia Cambodia (flight code KT) celebrates another significant milestone today with the launch of its first international flight from Phnom Penh to Kuala Lumpur, just three months after launching operations as Cambodia's newest low-cost airline.
Guests on AirAsia Cambodia flight KT168 were treated to an exciting pre-departure performance at Phnom Penh International Airport to make their journey even more memorable. The flight departed at 12.25pm (GMT +7) and landed at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (Terminal 2) at 3.15pm (GMT +8) with a water cannon salute upon arrival.
As a truly Asean airline, this launch is timely as the region celebrates the 57th Asean Day this month. This inaugural flight marks a significant step forward in improving connectivity between Cambodia and Malaysia. The seven weekly flights complement AirAsia Malaysia's twice-daily service and demonstrate the airline's commitment to boosting tourism and economic ties between the two countries.
AirAsia Cambodia CEO Vissoth Nam said:
"The 99 per cent load factor for our first international flight today is extremely encouraging. We have carried 25,861 guests domestically since we started operations in May, and with the launch of this international route, we aim to further strengthen the link between Cambodia and Malaysia”.
"Cambodia's tourism sector is on a robust growth trajectory, with the government actively promoting the country as a premier tourist destination. In the first half of 2024 alone, Cambodia welcomed more than three million international tourists. We expect our new route between Phnom Penh and Kuala Lumpur to further boost tourist arrivals between the two countries”.
"As part of the AirAsia Group, we are committed to supporting Cambodia's tourism and economic development goals, in line with the vision of Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, to establish more direct flights from major global tourist destinations to Cambodia. Our sister carrier, Thai AirAsia, has launched the Siem Reap-Phuket route with a three-times-weekly frequency from 29 October 2024”.
"In addition, Cambodians can use the Fly-Thru service to reach other exciting holiday destinations in Asia. We are committed to introducing more international routes in the region this year, while conducting feasibility studies for destinations such as Cebu, Bali and others to support the government's strategy."
AirAsia Cambodia has quickly established itself as a key player in the country's aviation industry, connecting Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and Sihanoukville domestically. As part of the AirAsia Group, the airline's network extends to over 130 destinations in Asia and beyond, utilising its strategic hubs in Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok to provide a seamless travel experience for its guests.
