Musica Felice's 13th charity concert, held on Sunday evening in the grand ballroom of the Sofitel Phnom Penh Phokeethra, was a resounding success, captivating the audience with its sublime music, warm atmosphere and powerful message of compassion.
The 28-member choir delivered breathtaking performances, their voices blending in perfect harmony to create a truly mesmerising soundscape.
I particularly enjoyed the choir's renditions of Edith Piaf's ‘Hymne à l'amour’ and Frank Sinatra's ‘My Way’. Another highlight was the hilarious medley of ‘Barbershop’, with the male chorus in their characteristic hats and dance steps.
Throughout the concert, I was captivated by the talent and professionalism of the conductor and pianist, Ms Miwako Fujiwara. Her grace and elegance on stage were totally inspiring.
My favourite part of the concert was the second half, a musical adaptation of ‘Dreamgirls’. The cast delivered a breathtaking performance, capturing the energy and passion of the original Broadway production. Cat Isaacs' portrayal of Effie was particularly moving, and Mr Dasrizal's comic performance as C.C. had the audience in fits of laughter.
The 10 star actors added a touch of drama and emotion to the evening, bringing to life the stories behind the songs.
As well as the music, the concert was also an initiative to provide financial assistance to the most vulnerable. Two Cambodian charities, Project Khmer HOPE and The Rabbit School, will benefit from the proceeds, enabling them to carry out new projects.
“Singing with and accompanying the Musica Felice choir has been an incredible experience. The people are fantastic and it's a pleasure to make music together and play it to such a committed audience,” said William Baird-Smith, singer and pianist with Musica Felice for almost a year.
The audience, made up of music lovers and Musica Felice supporters, were visibly moved by the performances. The atmosphere in the ballroom was electric, with the audience applauding and cheering the artists enthusiastically. The concert was a testament to the power of music to unite and inspire positive change.
